Why is there fibre in my ice cream?
Why is there fibre in my ice cream?

For years, when you were looking for a snack you had to choose: something decadent and delicious, or something healthy and not-so-delicious.

At The Ice Cream & Cookie Co., we wanted to give you the best of both worlds. Frozen desserts that are full of flavour, texture and give you that wonderful dessert experience and have better nutritional macros so you can enjoy your treats mindfully.

That is why all the flavours in our Pint range contain prebiotic fibre, and also reduced sugar (20-40% less than most of our competitors). If you want to dive deeper, read on.

What are prebiotics?

Prebiotics are non-digestible plant fibres that act as fertiliser for the beneficial bacteria living in your gut. Think of them less as nutrients for you, and more as nutrients for your microbiome.

They are not probiotics. Probiotics are live bacteria, commonly found in yoghurt, kefir and fermented foods. Consuming probiotics introduces beneficial bacteria into your digestive system.

Prebiotics, however, are what those bacteria eat. They help the “good” bacteria grow and function more effectively.

Why are prebiotics appearing in desserts now?

Indulgence used to exist separately from nutrition. A treat was simply a treat. Today, consumers are more intentional, often seeking small functional benefits in everything they use, eat, wear. Think about yoghurt with protein, makeup with real skincare benefits, or jewellery that tracks your health.

We add prebiotic fibre to respond to this shift in consumer needs, without dramatically changing the dessert experience.

So…why is there fibre in your treat?

Because dessert is evolving.

Not away from pleasure — but toward formulations that can deliver both enjoyment and function at the same time.
